Core Values
In his personal and professional life, Mike's core values are summed up in an easy to remember acronym: GRIP
Growth
Growth refers to the belief that one's abilities, intelligence, and talents can be developed and improved through dedication, effort, learning, and perseverance. Growing involves embracing life's challenges and continually learning from our wins and losses.
"But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity."
—2 Peter 3:18, Christian Standard Bible (CSB)
Respect
Respect means treating people with consideration, fairness, and politeness.
"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. Everyone should look not to his own interests, but rather to the interests of others." —Philippians 2:3-4 CSB
Integrity
Integrity often requires courage to do what is right, even when it's difficult, unpopular, or risky. This can mean standing up for one's beliefs or defending others when it's not easy. Do what is right, even when nobody is looking.
"He stores up success for the upright; He is a shield for those who live with integrity..." —Proverbs 2:7 CSB
"Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out." —Proverbs 10:9, New Living Translation (NLT)
Poise
Poise refers to self-assuredness, calmness, and dignity under pressure on and off the tennis court. It's about maintaining one's composure and confidence, regardless of the circumstances. Having control over one's emotions and responses is a key aspect of poise.
"A truly wise person uses few words; a person with understanding is even-tempered." —Proverbs 17:27 (NLT)
